Dr. Timothy Unsworth-Smith

Specialist Foot & Ankle, Knee and Trauma Surgeon
Dr Timothy Unsworth-Smith is an Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all foot and ankle conditions and injuries. Prior to Medicine he graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a degree in Human Movements and Business Marketing and worked as an exercise physiologist. He has a keen interest in all sports and has competed at a state and national level in swimming, athletics, rugby, powerlifting and natural bodybuilding. He continues to stay fit and active providing and promoting a healthy example to his patients. His other interests include travel and learning about other countries’ cultures. As part of this interest he has volunteered through parts of South America including Peru, Colombia and Argentina and is an experienced Spanish speaker.
He currently practices from St John of God Mount Lawley, Joondalup Health Campus and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Background and training
Dr Timothy Unsworth-Smith completed his orthopaedic specialist training in Perth after graduating from the University of Western Australia with Honours. He then travelled to Queensland and New South Wales to undergo sub-speciality training in foot and ankle conditions.
He completed a Foot and Ankle Fellowship in Brisbane with Dr Michael Lutz and Dr Ben Forster.
From here Dr Unsworth-Smith completed a second Foot and Ankle Fellowship with Dr Simon Platt at the Gold Coast University.
After successfully completing his Gold Coast Fellowship he then completed the Australian Orthopaedic Association recognised Foot and Ankle Fellowship in Sydney with Dr Andrew Wines. During these three separate fellowships, he completed multiple visitations working with and observing other well renowned surgeons throughout Queensland and New South Wales. Dr Timothy Unsworth-Smith was also offered further Foot and Ankle fellowships in both Spain and Canada but was unable to attend these due to COVID restriction.
On top of his subspecialty training in Foot and Ankle and Trauma, Dr Unsworth-Smith also has a key interest in Knee Arthroplasty (Total Knee Replacement Surgery). With 5 years of training in knee replacement surgery, Dr Unsworth-Smith finds it rewarding to give patient’s back their quality of life post surgery.
Dr Unsworth-Smith is experienced in all aspects of Foot and Ankle Surgery and Knee Replacement Surgery. In addition to his clinical experience, he has also completed several research projects which are published internationally. He has presented this research at multiple national and international conferences. Timothy is dedicated to continued learning and research with the aim to improve his patients’ care and medical experience.
